It is important to acknowledge and honor that the land I currently live and operate my business from are the ancestral, and unceded territory of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm Nation, whose name means “Red Fish up the River” and whose livelihood and way of life was greatly impacted by colonization and Western forms of infrastructure. JLA Studios respects and seeks to support the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm Nation in their on-going connection and stewardship to the land and their traditional territory surrounding the Coquitlam River Watershed.
JLA Studios is an interior design firm located in British Columbia. The firm was founded by Jennifer L. Aalders after honing her knowledge and technical skills for over 18 years under the mentorship of the partners and principles of some of the great Architecture Firms that have shaped the Vancouver Landscape.
JLA Studio’s mission is to curate a client-driven boutique firm that brings strong local + technical expertise to the Canadian Design and Construction Market. The firm’s expertise lies in managing complex + time-sensitive projects from the Design Phase, Working Drawings, Permitting Phase, and Contract Administration phase.
Over the years, Jennifer Aalders has developed numerous specialized environments for various professions; including commercial, education, and retail. Experience in these industries gives a unique perspective on how to create spaces that are both functional and enjoyable for the end user.

In our market ‘local’ is important. It’s important from a community perspective and a business perspective. On the business side, our local knowledge can be key in advising you on project impacts based on your jurisdiction and keeping your project on track with municipal review times and code requirements. Creativity is a key skill in the design profession, as it allows us to generate original ideas that stand out from the crowd and last longer than trends or norms. By thinking outside the box, we can explore new possibilities and overcome common challenges.
A case in point is the VCC Ground Floor project, where we achieved level floors with flush in-floor power raceways without the high cost of trenching or raised floors. We achieved this by strategizing minimal floor height changes at door thresholds and re-using existing materials where possible.
