SFU - Discovery 1

During my time with DA Architects + Planners, we got to work with Simon Fraser University to convert the 3rd floor of the Discovery 1 building into a multi-functional swing space.

The improvements included the creation of shared office space and amenities in the West wing of Discovery 3 to temporarily house faculty and staff during campus renovations. In addition, classrooms and a faculty office for Fraser International College (FIC) were provided in the East Wing.

The primary objective of the project was to create an attractive and functional work environment for students and faculty, while maintaining appropriate security levels and spatial division. Upon entry, occupants are greeted in the elevator lobby by a wood feature and are siphoned to either the SFU faculty area in the secure West wing or the FIC spaces in the East wing. Hints of the SFU red were used in the dedicated faculty areas to reinforce the designation of the space.
